I knew my final project for the Designer Showcase Opportunity needed to be something spectacular. I love creating fun 3D projects, and a simple little box or mini album just wouldn't do. But I wanted whatever I created to be functional as well. After some hemming and hawing, I finally came up with a plan.
I built the outer box from some medium weight chipboard, so it was solid and stable. I covered the panels with Black Licorice cardstock, and used the coverings to also hold the pieces together.
The straps, that close with Velcro dots, were added as a last minute touch, as the box became somewhat "spring loaded" once completed. Initially, the lid to the box fit inside just perfectly to hold it shut, and the small pull was on the front to make opening it a bit easier.
I loved the little pieces, where I added some heat embossing to mirror cardstock pieces. The little panels, and metal brads are just perfect touches to this project.
So what was in the box?
I styled this after numerous vintage style cameras. The accordian pockets are perfect to hold photos, ranging from a 3.5" square pocket, to a 7" square pocket.
Because of the box containing the "camera", I notched the dividers between the pockets, to make getting photos in and out a bit easier - particularly for the back pockets.
And, of course, the inside needed similar finishing touches as the outside. Brad detailing....
Heat embossing on Mirror paper...
And some fussy cut flowers to bring the floral motif into the inside of the box.
I spent about 9 hours total on this project, and I totally think it was worth it. The box came out beautifully, and received the reaction I was hoping for!
Thanks for stopping by!
